BALM, in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development (RGNIYD) offers a Diploma programme for lay-health workers on community mental health. This is a 6 month course with 25 credits, especially for social workers from local communities. Theory classes are held once a week while the mandatory field work is for three days per week. The course includes knowledge of self and community, well being and wellness, mental health and social welfare measures. It trains social workers from the community to become grassroots level interventionisists. It is currently held in Chennai and the medium of instruction is Tamil. This programme will soon be offered across the country, at multiple partner sites as well, including Ranchi, Kotagiri, and Chhattisgarh in local languages.
