BALM – IFMR partnership

BALM and the Institute of Financial Management and Research (IFMR) signed an MoU in April 2007 agreeing on a framework of cooperation that will facilitate the joint development of mutually beneficial courses, programs, services, research and other leadership initiatives in the field of development and non-profit management.

These leadership initiatives are part of BALM’s quest to lead thought and action in the field of development in India and to partner with likeminded institutions which have the competence and commitment to the larger cause of helping develop leadership in the social sector.

BALM organises an introduction programme on the development sector for the 1st year MBA students of IFMR. At the start of the partnership, the introduction included lectures on social development and the role of civil society, talks by social entrepreneurs and field visits, followed by a 4 month internship in The Banyan projects. In 2009 – 2010, the format was revised considering the large number of students and instead of an internship, the students completed various assignments on development topics.

Between 2008 and 2010, BALM has trained more than 250 students.
