In 2003, a team of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, conducted an evaluation was to understand the effectiveness of the care program provided by The Banyan in terms of the process of care, profile of residents, infrastructure and technical manpower available to respond to their needs, vocational training facilities, rehabilitation processes, status of resettled persons and linkages developed in the community to support the above initiatives. This evaluation was carried out in a systematic manner using standardized instruments, focus group interviews with staff, carers, NGOs and volunteers.
