Research & Academic Collaborations
The Research wing aims at focusing on building an evidence-based for indigenous perceptions, manifestations, and treatment of mental illnesses and distress. The Banyan Academy uses research as a tool to evaluate their services and understand challenges, highlights, and levels of adherence and fidelity to internally developed protocols.
This knowledge was especially helpful in contributing to larger sectoral discourse and advocacy, such as the Supreme Court Ruling on Homeless Shelters in 2010, India’s first National Mental Health Policy, in which The Banyan was a contributing author, and legislations such as the Destitution Bill of 2016, Mental Health Care Act, 2017, and the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016.
